Our Project Manager
Surat-Shaan Knan works for the Liberal Jewish movement UK and is a campaigner for faith related LGBTQI+ issues. Shaan is the founder and manager of the landmark Heritage Lottery Fund supported projects Rainbow Jews , Twilight People and most recently Rainbow Pilgrims.
Shaan is a proud member of the Stonewall Trans Advisory Group, and actively involved in the Global Interfaith Network GIN SSOGIEs. He is also the Trans Organisation Network Worker for the LGBT Consortium.
Shaan is a non-binary trans activist from a mixed heritage (passionate about #trans #nonbinary #queer #faith #BAME #TQPOC #intersections #intersex #heritage). He blogs on LGBTQI+ and faith issues for Jewish News UK. He’s been involved in the AHRC funded project Ritual Reconstructed in collaboration with Buckinghamshire New University, Portsmouth University, and Coventry University. He co-produced Through a Queer Lens, an Arts Council England supported portrait exhibition by Ajamu and The Jewish Museum London (Feb 2016).
He organised the 1st UK Trans* & Faith Symposium at the University of Warwick in May 2016.
Shaan was hailed as one of the young Jewish queer pioneers by Haaretz for Tel Aviv Pride 2014.
He is a high-profile public speaker and has presented at numerous international conferences including Trans* Studies, University of Arizona 2016; LGBT History Month Cambridge University 2015, Tel Aviv LGBT Leadership Conference 2015; ILGA World Mexico 2014; AIDS 2014 Melbourne, Global Interfaith Network, Johannesburg 2014, and WOGA Outgames, Antwerp 2013.
Shaan has an M.A. degree in Psychology (Gender Studies), Journalism and Theatre, and has worked for over two decades as educator, performance artist and project coordinator with numerous international organisations including Sydney Western University.

We have a Youth Advisory & Action Group consisting of up to 20 young people aged 16-25 from various youth groups that. We believe that especially young voices should be included in all project areas.
